Tom Richards live performances are based on rhythmically mixing several channels of live radio broadcast in the face of the immanent cancellation of analogue FM broadcasting. He has a continuing interest in tribal and shamanic music. He works with live or recorded and randomised live electronic drum-choirs using principles of chance and polyrhythm. In addition to the semi-autonomous machinic interfaces he utilises to create sound structures he also involves resonant sonic sculptural elements as part of his works.

Tom Richards has shown and performed widely including the sound series as part of Scratch Nights at Milton Keynes Gallery, curated by Simon Wright and Emma Dean with the Agency gallery, recent group exhibition Code of Contingency at the Agency gallery with Call and Response and Lucky Dragons, curated by Sarah Jury and Lisa Baldini. He has held sound performances at Spike Island, Bristol, The Drop at Soundfjord, London, A Disturbance in the Ether as part of Late at Tate: Diffusions, Tate Britain, at The Agency Gallery, London, James Taylor Gallery, Heritage Radio , Inheritance Projects: Radio Show, Space, London, Strangers in the Night/Down with Love , as part of 'Systematic' Exhibition, Project Space 176, London, Narcissus Trance , E:vent Gallery, London, and the solo exhibtion Ode to the Appliance at The Pigeon Wing Gallery, London.
